Hwange – A 64-year-old man from Hwange has been convicted of physical abuse after he assaulted his wife for following him to his girlfriend’s house.
The man appeared in the Hwange Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced to pay a fine of US$200 or face three months in prison if he fails to comply.
Additionally, three months of the sentence were wholly suspended for a period of five years.
According to a report from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred on April 17, 2025, around 9:00 PM. The victim followed her husband to his girlfriend’s residence after he left work. Upon entering the girlfriend’s bedroom, the victim confronted her husband, which provoked a violent reaction.
In a fit of rage, the offender physically assaulted his wife, striking her multiple times. Eyewitness accounts revealed that he then dragged her outside and continued to attack her with his booted feet.
The court’s decision reflects a growing concern over domestic violence and the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions.
Local authorities have emphasized the need for increased awareness and preventative measures to combat such incidents, urging victims to report abuse and seek help.
This case serves as a stark reminder that domestic violence remains a pressing issue in communities, highlighting the necessity for ongoing dialogue and education on healthy relationships and conflict resolution.
