Shock Grips Marubamba as Newborn Brutally Killed While Mother Ate Breakfast

Crimes and Courts
FILABUSI – A quiet morning in Ukuzwisisa Village, Marubamba, turned tragic on Africa Day when an eight-week-old baby boy was found brutally murdered, his nose and right cheek severed, in a case that has left the community reeling.

The infant’s mother had left him sleeping in a spare bedroom while she ate breakfast in a separate kitchen hut nearby, according to local authorities.

Upon returning, she discovered the child unresponsive and mutilated, prompting immediate outcry.

Police in Filabusi have launched a homicide investigation, though no suspects have been identified yet.

“This is a deeply disturbing and heart-wrenching incident,” said national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement.

“We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and assist in ensuring justice for this innocent life.”

The crime has sparked outrage and fear in the rural community, with residents describing the act as “unthinkable.” Local leaders have called for calm as investigators comb the area for clues.

Authorities confirmed the infant’s body was taken to Filabusi District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Commissioner Nyathi emphasized the urgency of public cooperation:

“Every detail matters. Report anything suspicious to your nearest police station immediately.”

As the probe continues, questions linger over how the assailant accessed the home undetected and the motive behind the gruesome mutilation. Police have not ruled out ritualistic elements, given the removal of body parts, but stress it is “too early to speculate.”

The tragedy has reignited debates over rural safety and child protection in the region, with community members pleading for heightened security measures to prevent further horrors.
