Zimbabwean hip-hop artist DAC Daniels has released a fresh new single that fuses contemporary hip-hop with traditional Zimbabwean sounds.
The track, produced by Nagbeatz, samples the late legendary musician John Chibadura’s classic hit “Dhiya Wangu”.
In an interview, DAC Daniels revealed that the beat itself inspired the song, pushing him to craft something extraordinary. He aimed to tell a culturally rich story while redefining hip-hop with a uniquely Zimbabwean touch.
The song narrates the tale of a young man who falls in love with a woman from a different social background, only to face resistance due to his financial struggles. The lyrics highlight the power of genuine love over material wealth.
“We see a young man arriving at his lover’s place, and upon knocking, the father aggressively questions his presence,” DAC Daniels explained.
“The young man then expresses his deep love for the daughter, despite his empty pockets.”
The track blends drill, sungura samples, and vintage sounds, a fusion DAC Daniels describes as “Drillsungura.” Produced by Nagbeatz, the song was recorded at Mars Studio.
DAC Daniels shared that the creative process flowed naturally, with the beat and Chibadura’s sample guiding the melody and chord progression. The writing process was seamless, further fueled by the nostalgic yet modern production.
This latest release showcases DAC Daniels’ innovative artistry, proving his ability to merge diverse genres into a fresh, captivating sound.
