A 24-year-old man from Mahatshula North suburb in Bulawayo has been brought to court for allegedly sodomising his 15-year-old male cousin on two separate occasions.
The accused, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim, faces two counts of aggravated indecent assault, as heard by Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mr. Joseph Mabeza.
Details of the Incidents
According to State prosecutor Mr. Dominic Moyo, the first incident occurred in April this year while the accused and the victim were sharing a bed. In the middle of the night, the accused allegedly woke the complainant, stripped him, and engaged in anal intercourse without protection. Following this incident, he reportedly threatened to kill the victim if he disclosed the matter to anyone.
The second incident took place on October 1, again during the night while they were sharing the same bed. The accused is said to have raped the complainant after stripping him naked and once more threatened him against revealing the abuse.
Reporting the Abuse
The situation came to light two days later when the victim confided in his grandfather about the assaults. The grandfather accompanied the victim to the police station to file a report, leading to the legal proceedings against the accused.
The court has adjourned the matter to Monday for sentencing.
