Nigeria ‘Super Eagles’ are through to the last 16 in Cameroon after beating Sudan by 3-1 in their second AFCON group match.
Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze struck after just three minutes of Saturday’s clash at the Stade Roumde Adjia in Garoua to set Nigeria – who beat Egypt in a heavyweight opening fixture – on their way to a straight win in the group of Death.
Nigeria scored their second goal in the 45th minute just before the half time break.
Nigeria’s coach half time message to players was effective as Moses Simon scored a third goal a minute just after the break.
Twenty minutes later match official Victor Gomez awarded a penalty to Sudan for a foul committed in the penalty box by Nigeria.
He pointed to the screen for a review Video Assistance Referee (VAR) and it was a clear penalty for the Falcons of Jediane.
They did not disappoint, Walieldin Khedr Safour Daiyeen converted from the spot Sudan’s maiden goal of the tournament sending the Nigerian goalkeeper the wrong direction.
Nigeria tops group D with 6 points from two outings.
In their first match the Super Eagles beat highly rated Mo’Salah’s Egyptian side by a goal collecting three points from the Pharaohs.
