Zimbabwe’s poor perfomance continues after losing to the Flames of Malawi in their second AFCON match in Cameroon.
Hellings Mhango scored twice as they stunned their Southern African rivals Zimbabwe in the Group B at the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam on Friday.
Ishmael Wadi had put Zimbabwe ahead in the 39th minute but Mhango levelled just before the break.
The Flames goal poacher added another after 58 minutes as he took advantage of some hesitant defending and supplied a poacher’s finish.
Malawi now have three points from two games and lie third in the group behind Senegal and Guinea, who each have four. Zimbabwe have lost both of their matches to date to remain anchored at the bottom of the group.
In the 67th minute Warriors coach Norman Mapeza made some changes in a bid to regain control of the game by throwing Jordan Zemura into the pack for ineffective Bruce Kangwa.
Kudakwashe Mahachi was introduced later in the 83rd minute but these changes did not make any positive impact on the field of play and the scoreboard.
Warriors lost their first match to Senegal by a late goal in the 94th minute from the penalty spot in their first match of the tournament.
Senegal drew 0-0 against Guinea in other Group B match played on Friday on the same day.
Guinea tops the Group with four points from two outings followed Senegal with the same number of points as well.
The top two teams from each group automatically qualify for the round of 16 knockout stage.
Four third placed teams with best points will also qualify for the knockout stage.
Warriors might have a slight chance to qualify for the round of 16 if they win the remaining match against Guinea with a wider goal margin. This is dependent on the result of how the other teams fare.
