Gerald Makina, a 23-year-old traditional healer, is currently in police custody as authorities investigate shocking allegations that he attempted to kill a client by setting her home ablaze.
Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha, the acting spokesperson for the Mashonaland Central police, stated,
“We have an attempted murder case under investigation in Mt Darwin. The incident involves a traditional healer accused of attempting to kill his client after she demanded a refund for services she claimed were unsuccessful.”
Background of the Dispute:
On October 2, 47-year-old Getrude Kunyepi sought the healer’s help for a personal health issue. Makina reportedly assured her that he could resolve her problem and charged her $150 for his services, which Kunyepi paid in full.
Despite following Makina’s treatment, Kunyepi experienced no improvement in her condition. Dissatisfied with the results, she returned to Makina on November 2, demanding a refund.
“I just wanted my money back,” Kunyepi expressed.
“I trusted him, but nothing changed.”
In a terrifying turn of events just two days later, Kunyepi faced a life-threatening ordeal. Reports indicate that late at night on November 4, Makina visited her home and allegedly set it on fire while she was inside, intending to trap her in the blaze.
“I thought I was going to die,” Kunyepi recalled.
Fortunately, she managed to escape the inferno and survived the harrowing incident.
Immediately after her narrow escape, Kunyepi reported the attack to local authorities, prompting a rapid response.
“I couldn’t believe someone I went to for help would try to kill me,” she added.
Healer’s Attempted Escape and Arrest:
Following Kunyepi’s report, law enforcement officials initiated a search for Makina. He was apprehended as he attempted to cross the border into Mozambique, indicating he might have been trying to flee to avoid prosecution.
“His actions are reprehensible,” Sergeant Major Chikasha remarked.
“We will ensure that justice is served.”
Makina is now facing serious charges, including attempted murder, as the investigation continues to uncover the full details and motives behind this shocking incident.
