An 18-year-old teenager from Victoria Falls has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his 34-year-old stepfather, identified as Trust. The incident occurred on November 4, 2024, and the accused is currently in police custody facing charges of murder.
Details of the Incident
According to police spokesperson Glory Banda, the deceased was discovered hanging from a tree at a Truck Stop area, with visible injuries, including blood at the back of his head. The altercation reportedly began when Trust, who was intoxicated, started insulting the accused’s mother and sister. When the accused intervened and asked Trust to stop, he was met with further insults.
In a moment of anger, the accused struck Trust with a log multiple times, targeting his head and body. Following the assault, Trust sought refuge at a neighbor’s house, where he reported the incident and was advised to sleep in his car to avoid further conflict. Tragically, the next morning, Trust’s body was found hanging from a tree by a 14-year-old.
The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Trust’s death. A postmortem examination is expected to determine whether the cause of death was due to the assault or the hanging.
