Heavy rains last week have caused significant destruction in Tsholotsho, particularly affecting two schools: Nembe Primary School and Nembe Secondary School.
The infrastructure damage has left many learners without proper classrooms, forcing them to conduct lessons under trees.
Details of the Damage
According to Ward 22 Councillor Nkululeko Ndebele, the rains resulted in the destruction of wall blocks and significant damage to various school facilities.
At Nembe Primary School, the wall block for grades three and four was destroyed, along with damage to the staff office, administration block, and solar panels. Similarly, Nembe Secondary School saw the destruction of the block used by Form One and Two students, leaving these learners without classrooms.
Urgent Need for Assistance
Councillor Ndebele has made an urgent appeal for international assistance, highlighting the economic challenges faced by the community and the inability of parents to fund the rebuilding efforts. He noted that the schools, built in the 1950s, have never undergone maintenance, which has exacerbated the damage caused by the recent rains. With the rainy season approaching, he emphasized the need for immediate help to restore these educational facilities.
