The City of Harare (CoH) has issued a warning to residents and ratepayers regarding a rise in reports of individuals impersonating municipal officers and soliciting bribes. This alert follows the arrest of Kevin Dube, who was operating under the alias Kevin Muropa.
Details of the Fraudulent Activities
According to the CoH, Dube was involved in fraudulent activities by demanding payments from business owners while falsely claiming to enforce shop licensing regulations. The municipality stated,
“Some individuals masquerading as CoH officers are roaming around the streets of Harare demanding bribes and fleecing residents of their hard-earned money.” Dube has been apprehended and handed over to the police for his actions.
Reporting Suspicious Activities
Residents who believe they may have fallen victim to Dube’s schemes are encouraged to report their cases at Harare Central Police Station under Reference Number IR110664. The local authority urges anyone who encounters suspicious activities or demands for bribes from individuals claiming to be from the CoH to report these incidents. Recording any such demands is also advised to aid in investigations.
