Years ago, faded South African Musician sang,

“Ejele bakwenz’usisi Rose, Ejele bakwenzu’sis Rose”

Well the song has come to life when two inmates, Godwin Dlodlo and Gilbert Shonhai, from Khami Maximum Prison near Bulawayo, have been charged with sodomy.

They appeared in court before Magistrate Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe, where the serious nature of the allegations drew significant attention.

Sodomy, which involves sexual acts between men, is illegal in Zimbabwe, and those convicted can face severe penalties. The charges are linked to incidents that allegedly occurred while the inmates were serving their sentences at Khami Maximum Prison, a facility known for housing serious offenders under challenging conditions.

Court Proceedings

The court proceedings will assess the guilt or innocence of both Dlodlo and Shonhai.

Their legal representatives will have the opportunity to defend them against these serious accusations. While specific details of the incidents have not been disclosed, this case underscores ongoing issues related to prison life and the treatment of inmates within the justice system.
