In a significant development regarding an armed robbery that took place at Dahwe Farm in August, police have successfully tracked down Taurai Pangai, the alleged perpetrator, through a cell phone he dropped at the crime scene.
This incident involved a group of 12 individuals who reportedly executed a well-planned robbery, resulting in the theft of US$120,000 from the farm’s accountant.
Details of the Incident
On August 27, Pangai and his accomplices arrived at Dahwe Farm in a grey Mazda BT50. They forcibly confronted several mine workers, confiscating their cell phones to prevent them from calling for help. The gang then targeted the Chinese nationals residing on the property, where they threatened them with firearms and demanded money.
- Victims: The gang specifically targeted a female Chinese accountant, tying her up and searching for cash. They managed to steal a substantial amount of money hidden under her mattress, along with various sums from other male Chinese nationals present at the farm.
- Threats and Violence: One gang member discharged a firearm into the air to deter a group that was approaching to assist the victims.
Aftermath and Arrest
Following the robbery, the gang fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, abandoning both the stolen Toyota Revo and their getaway Mazda BT50 after a police chase. The police later discovered a cell phone at the location where the vehicles were dumped, which was traced back to Pangai, leading to his arrest.
This case highlights the effectiveness of modern investigative techniques, such as tracking mobile devices, in solving serious crimes.
