A 28-year-old fuel garage manager, Daudi Daudi, has been accused of stealing over $52,000 from his company, Energy Park in Bulawayo.
He allegedly received funds from various fuel stations, including Imbizo, West Nicholson, Belmont, and Esigodini, but instead of depositing the money into the company’s account, he used it for his own purposes.
Daudi was arraigned in court on October 21 and has been released on bail until November 4.
Interestingly, this incident is not isolated, as a 35-year-old woman, Nothando Banana, also appeared in court for stealing $24,000 from a steel manufacturing company in the Belmont industrial area during an armed robbery. She allegedly tried to cover up her crime by blaming the robbers.
These incidents come on the heels of a massive heist where $4 million was seized from an Ecobank branch in Bulawayo by AK47-armed robbers. Additionally, $20,000 was stolen from a Fawcett security cash-in-transit van after guards gave a lift to two strangers.
The country has seen an alarming 11% surge in robberies, prompting calls for the police to implement effective strategies to combat crime.
