On Sunday, October 27, 2024, Ishmael Maburisa, the driver for Deputy Finance Minister David Mnangagwa, was found dead in his hotel room at the Greys Inn hotel in Bulawayo, shortly after the conclusion of the Zanu PF annual conference as reported by Zimlive.
David Mnangagwa is President Mnanganwa’s son.
Reports suggest that Maburisa may have died from diabetic shock, as he had been seen earlier at the hotel reception urgently requesting food, indicating he might have been experiencing hypoglycemia.
Circumstances Leading to Death
Witnesses at the hotel reported that Maburisa had been shouting for food before he was given porridge, the only available option at the time. After consuming the porridge, he returned to his room but soon began to twitch and convulse, resembling an epileptic episono, before ultimately dying. Police later discovered diabetes medication in his room, confirming his medical condition.
“They gave him porridge, the only food that was there. He went back to his room but after a short period he started twitching and convulsing as though he was having an epileptic episode and he unfortunately died,” the witness said.
Context of Recent Events
This incident adds to a series of troubling events surrounding David Mnangagwa. Earlier in June 2024, his home in Harare was broken into twice, with the second incident involving bullets left outside his bedroom door. Shortly after these break-ins, the house was set on fire under mysterious circumstances.
Conclusion
The sudden death of Ishmael Maburisa raises concerns regarding the health and safety of those close to prominent political figures in Zimbabwe, particularly in light of the recent violent incidents involving David Mnangagwa’s residence. The police have not provided further comments on the situation as of now.
