On Monday morning, a Govasburg bus carrying 30 passengers overturned along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, resulting in 15 injuries.
The incident occurred at the 244-kilometer peg, where the bus lost control and landed on its right side. The injured individuals were promptly taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.
Contributing Factors
While the specific cause of the accident is still under investigation, common factors in bus accidents in Zimbabwe often include speeding, aggressive driving, and overloading. These issues significantly increase the difficulty of controlling the vehicle, leading to such unfortunate incidents.
Related Incident
In a separate incident on Saturday, an Inter Africa bus also overturned at Umguza Bridge; along the Bulawayo-Gwanda Highway. This accident resulted in the deaths of two passengers and injuries to 43 others. The bus, which was traveling from Mutare to Bulawayo, had 50 passengers on board at the time. Emergency services managed to rescue three passengers trapped in the wreckage, and the injured were taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for care.
