A 56 year old man from Nkayi in Matabeleland North Province was discovered brutally murdered in Killarney Squatter Camp in Bulawayo.
The victim, Josephat Sibanda (56), was found in a pool of blood and hidden in tall grass with multiple fatal wounds, including a deep stab wound to the left shoulder, a cut on the back of the head, and multiple bruises on his stomach.
Police in Bulawayo have confirmed the arrest of Promise Ndebele, a 20 year old male from Muza Village, in connection with the brutal murder of Sibanda Josephat, from Nkayi, Mdutshekelwa Village.
The suspect was arrested in his home after a thorough investigation of the incident, which occurred last week in the early hours of the morning at Killarney Squatter Camp.
According to the Police reports, on the fateful night of October 18th, at around 3am, Sibanda Josephat was peacefully asleep in his shack when accused persons broke into his dwelling and brutally assaulted him.
Reportedly one of the nearby neighbours, who later discovered the horrific scene, reported hearing the loud and chaotic noises of a door being damaged and someone being beaten up.
Out of fear, the neighbour remained indoors until approximately 6am, when the commotion had subsided and the assailants had seemingly fled the scene.
Upon hearing the silence of the morning, the neighbour cautiously stepped out of his residence to investigate the situation
He found the door to Sibanda’s shack severely damaged, with his personal belongings strewn all over the ground.
The neighbour, having noticed that Sibanda was absent from his shack, alerted other residents of the squatter camp and initiated a search for the missing man.
Residents teamed up in search of the now deceased in a nearby bushy area around the Killarney Squatter camp.
Tragically, Sibanda, was found lying in a pool of blood some 40 metres away from his shack, his body brutally assaulted and left for dead in a secluded patch of grass.
A detailed examination of the scene revealed three injuries inflicted upon him, including a deep stab wound to the left shoulder, a vicious cut to the back of the head, and bruises scattered across his stomach.
The authorities were immediately notified, and a police report was filed.
The body of the victim was subsequently transported to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for a thorough autopsy, as investigators sought to piece together the events leading up to his death.
In the aftermath Sibanda’s murder, the diligent efforts of the investigators led them to Promise Ndebele, who was identified as a key suspect in the case and was arrested at his place of residence.
“Police would like to urge members of the public not to put the law into their own hands but try to find amicable ways to solve their problems. We also appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Xolani Moyo, Oscar Mlauzi and Alex to report at any nearest police station, “said Inspector Abednico Ncube, the Press and Public Relations Officer for Bulawayo Province.
