Importance of Property Registration Awareness

A Bulawayo councillor, Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu, has highlighted a critical issue affecting families in the region: the lack of knowledge regarding the registration of properties owned by deceased individuals.

The Ward 28 Councilor emphasized that many families are facing unnecessary hardships due to their unawareness of the processes involved in transferring property after the death of a loved one.

“Many families in Bulawayo face unnecessary hardships because they are unaware of how to handle the transfer of property after the death of a loved one,” he said.

“We need to prioritise making this information accessible to all residents.”

Consequences of Inaction

Ndlovu pointed out that the failure to register deceased properties can lead to complex legal battles, delayed inheritance processes, and in some cases, the loss of family homes to unscrupulous individuals. This situation creates significant financial and emotional stress, particularly for vulnerable family members, such as widows, who may lack the necessary documentation or knowledge to secure their inheritance.

Proposed Solutions

To address this issue, Ndlovu has called for a public awareness program aimed at educating residents about the importance of property registration. He believes that by making this information accessible, families will be empowered to secure their rights and inheritance effectively.

“By addressing this issue head-on, we will protect families from exploitation and ensure that property rights are preserved, providing stability and security for future generations,” Ndlovu said.

He suggested that the local council should collaborate with legal experts, community leaders, and local media to conduct educational campaigns. By tackling this issue directly, Ndlovu aims to protect families from exploitation and ensure that property rights are preserved, ultimately providing stability and security for future generations.
