A 49 year old security guard from Hwange in Matabeleland North province was dragged before a magistrates’ court accused of multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault.
The alleged victims, all young men between the ages of 17 and 19, were offered accommodation at the accused’s home after securing jobs at his workplace.
The Court was told that on August 10th, 2024, the accused person, who was working as a security guard in Hwange, offered accommodation to the 17 year old complainant, who had just secured a job at the same workplace.
The accused person invited the complainant to stay at his home, unbeknownst to the complainant that the seemingly generous offer would soon turn into a nightmare.
Court revelations are that on the night of August 11th, the accused and the young complainant were sharing the accused’s bedroom when the accused allegedly engaged in anal sexual intercourse with the complainant, without his consent.
The complainant, who had no way of knowing that his accommodation offer would lead to such an attack, was left traumatized and violated in a place where he thought he was safe.
In a desperate attempt to deter further attacks, the complainant confided in a friend and fellow colleague about the assault.
The friend advised the complainant to wear tight fitting clothes to bed, in the hopes that the discomfort would deter the accused.
However, on the night of August 13th, the accused allegedly assaulted the complainant once again, utterly disregarding the young man’s bodily autonomy and sense of safety.
The state prosecutor further revealed that the accused’s alleged crimes did not stop with the 17 year old complainant.
Two more young men, aged 19 and 18, who also worked with the accused, were allegedly assaulted in the same manner on August 15th and August 25th, respectively.
The accused person has been trialed in court for being a predator who targeted vulnerable young men in his workplace and took advantage of his position of authority to perpetrate sexual violence.
In light of the multiple allegations against him, the accused appeared before the magistrate’s court and was remanded in custody to the 25th of October 2024 for the continuation of trial.
