The Zimbabwe Republic Police commemorated the National Tree Planting day and the Environmental Support at a ceremony held at Ross Camp yesterday afternoon.
Awards were handed over to the deserving recipients.
Gracing the event was the Ambassador W. Bonde, the Officer Commanding Bulawayo Province Commissioner P. Mbangwa, Assistant Commissioner Administration D. Matshilana were among the dignitaries.
In his speech, Commissioner Mbangwa said:
“We are gathered here today to commemorate the National Tree Planting Day and awards presentation by Isandla Esihle/ Ruoko Rwakanaka under the theme ‘keep the environment clean, combat climate change’.”
The organisation, Isandla Esihle/ Ruoko Rwakanaka has taken it upon themselves to encourage the public in this initiative thus awarding companies and individuals with “outstanding efforts in keeping the green world alive in their surroundings and spheres of influence.”
Isandla Esihle donated indigenous and exotic orchard trees to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
“We receive and accept the donation with gladness and shall endeavour to nurture them to our best ability…the move by Isandla Esihle is commendable,” noted Mbangwa.
The ZRP hoped this initiative will call upon more organisations into containing the global warming and climate change.
In the handover ceremony,
“Isandla Esihle is here to present certificates to individuals who have done well in terms of landscaping either in institutions or in their work places.”
Organisations being awarded the certificates were Nyaradzo Funeral, Bulawayo City Council, Holiday Inn (all of which were not in attendance), Trek Service Station, Judicial Service Commission whose representative Tracy Dube was not in attendance as well, Tonderai Shoko from Keep Bulawayo Clean, Kabelo Sibanda and Fanuel Macherechedze.
Isandla Esihle/Ruoko Rwakanaka representative hopes that,
“These awards will go a long way in encouraging others who have been slow and reluctant to actively participate in environmental protection affirmative action.”
The goal is to have every member of the country plant one tree or more each year.
