Zimbabwe’s courts have been busy, with several high-profile cases resulting in significant sentences.
Ghanaian National Jailed for Immigration and Identity Fraud
Zakia Abdul Ahmed Issah, a 26-year-old Ghanaian national, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for violating Zimbabwe’s immigration laws and fraudulently obtaining local identification documents. Issah entered Zimbabwe illegally in 2024 and attempted to check in at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport using a Zimbabwean passport under a false name.
Mutare Maids Sentenced for $26,000 Theft
In another case, two housemaids, Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda, 32, and Ashley Munyaradzi Matika, 20, were sentenced to 36 months in prison for stealing $26,000 from their employer in Chikanga, Mutare. The pair stole a cash box containing the money from their employer’s bedroom and shared it.
Prophet Madungwe Sentenced for Driving Offenses
Self-proclaimed Prophet Talent Madungwe, 38, has been sentenced to community service and a suspended prison term for driving without a license and negligent driving. Madungwe was involved in a collision near Harare’s Airport Road on August 6.
Tatmark Motors Owner Accused of $12,000 Vehicle Fraud
Tatenda Makanda, 32, owner of Tatmark Motors, has been accused of defrauding a National Social Security Authority employee of $12,000 in a botched vehicle deal. Makanda appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi on two counts of fraud and was released on $100 bail.
These sentences demonstrate Zimbabwe’s commitment to tackling crime and corruption. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has reiterated its dedication to ensuring justice is served.
