A dramatic scene unfolded in Harare’s Central Business District yesterday as a wife, Ruth, caught her husband, Togarasei Matemera, buying a double bed and refrigerator for his lover, Lindiwe Sibiya.
“I was walking around looking for someone to repair my child’s mobile phone. I spotted the two being assisted by shop attendants and I followed proceedings from a distance,” Ruth explained.
Ruth confronted Matemera, who claimed he was hired to deliver the furniture. However, Ruth was unforgiving, having previously discovered Lindiwe’s messages on her husband’s phone.
“He denied any knowledge of Lindiwe some time ago when I saw her messages on his phone… When I confronted my husband, he claimed to have been hired and I got angry and took the car keys,” Ruth said.
The incident drew attention from passersby, with some women surprisingly praising Matemera as a “Super Husband” who knows how to take care of his women.
“Tipeiwo number dzenyu, tazviwona kuti munogona kuchengeta ma girlfriends” (“Give us your number, we want to see if you can take care of us girlfriends”), one woman said.
Matemera’s vehicle was parked for over an hour as he remained stuck without the car keys.
“I have since managed it… She took the vehicle keys,” Matemera admitted.
Lindiwe quickly disappeared from the scene, leaving Matemera to face the consequences of his infidelity.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions, with some condemning Matemera’s actions and others admiring his supposed generosity towards his lover.
