Dairibord Holdings has vehemently denied reports that it has shut down its Zimbabwe operations and relocated to South Africa, reaffirming its commitment to its Zimbabwean roots.
Group Chief Executive Mercy Ndoro stated,
“Dairibord remains firmly committed to its Zimbabwean roots and will continue to operate within the country… The company is investing in capacity enhancement to support its growth ambition.”
In a statement issued on October 8, Dairibord addressed the “inaccuracies” in online media reports, clarifying its position:
“Dairibord notes with concern various online media reports on the purported closure of its Zimbabwe operations and subsequent relocation to South Africa… These reports reflect inaccuracies which this statement seeks to clarify.”
Ndoro explained that Dairibord has been successfully exporting its heritage brands to South Africa and other regional markets, but struggled to meet demand. To address this, the company is optimizing supply and distribution channels in South Africa and plans to replicate this model in adjacent markets.
“The Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) makes regional positioning a major strategic priority… This will increase the company’s foreign currency generation capacity, benefiting not only the company but also the country at large.”
Key Highlights:
- Commitment to Zimbabwe: Dairibord reaffirms its dedication to its Zimbabwean roots
- Capacity Enhancement: Investments in local operations to support growth ambitions
- Regional Expansion: Optimizing supply and distribution channels in South Africa and adjacent markets
- Import Substitution: Dairibord works with local farmers to grow raw milk production.
As the largest milk processing company in Zimbabwe, Dairibord plays a vital role in the country’s import substitution strategy, processing approximately 40% of national raw milk production.
With over 70 years of history, Dairibord remains committed to delivering high-quality products to consumers in Zimbabwe and beyond.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing quality, nutritious milk, food, and beverage products to Zimbabwe and beyond, as the Zimbabwean operations remain the backbone of the expansion drive,” Ndoro concluded.
