The decomposing body parts of Stella Mushangidze Chidzenga, a teacher from Chitungwiza, have been discovered in Gutu after she went missing during the second term school holiday in August. Chidzenga was a Grade 2 teacher at Shingayi Government Primary School in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza.

Circumstances of Disappearance

Chidzenga’s disappearance has sparked various theories. One account suggests that she left home to seek medical attention in Harare and called one of her children to wait for her at a nearby bus stop, but she never returned home. Her family had circulated a “Missing Person” flyer on social media platforms, raising awareness about her case.

Discovery of the Body

The discovery was made by a young herdboy in Gutu, who stumbled upon the decomposing remains and alerted his father. The family and local community members were notified, and the body was initially covered with tree branches while a police report was filed. However, when police returned, they could not locate the body at the original site. It was later found a few meters away during a resumed search.

Evidence and Investigation

Alongside the body parts, several personal items were recovered, including a dress, slip-ons, a handbag, a wallet, and a mobile phone. Notably, the phone contained a contact saved as “Daddy,” which was used to reach out to Chidzenga’s father. The police have since taken the remains to the local mortuary for further investigation.

Community Response

The atmosphere at Chidzenga’s school was somber as her colleagues prepared to visit her home to offer condolences. Chidzenga was a graduate of Morgan Zintec College and a devoted member of the Anglican Church. Her family has returned to Harare to make funeral arrangements, while authorities are determining where the postmortem examination will take place.

Conclusion

The tragic case of Stella Mushangidze Chidzenga highlights the serious issues surrounding safety and violence in the community. As investigations continue, the family and community mourn the loss of a beloved teacher and mother.
