Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has apologized for previously stating that Christians who don’t pay tithe may not make it to heaven.
In a recent video, Pastor Adeboye admitted his mistake, saying,
“I apologize for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible.”
He referenced Hebrews 12:14, which states,
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.”
This apology marks a significant shift in Adeboye’s stance on tithing.
Adeboye also emphasized that 10% should be the starting point for tithing, encouraging members to give more.
“It is wrong to limit you to 10 percent when someone is talking of 20, 30, 40 percent. 10 percent should be for beginners.”
As a scientist and pastor, Adeboye acknowledged the complexity of truth.
“It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time… Later on, we discovered light travels in waves.” He hinted at exploring this topic further in the future.
Key Takeaways:
- Apology: Pastor Adeboye retracts statement linking tithing to salvation
- Biblical Reference: Hebrews 12:14 emphasizes holiness and peace as prerequisites for seeing God
- Tithing Encouragement: Adeboye suggests 10% as a starting point, encouraging members to give more
- Scientific Analogy: Adeboye uses the example of light’s properties to illustrate the complexity of truth.
This apology reflects Adeboye’s commitment to Biblical accuracy and his willingness to correct past mistakes.
