A bizarre incident unfolded in Nzvimbe, Makoni South, when touts seized the coffin of their deceased colleague, Darlington Mukono, and dumped it in his uncle’s shop, accusing him of causing his death.
The touts, from Harare, alleged that Joshua Hweniwa Mukono was responsible for Darlington’s demise. They pasted the deceased’s pictures around the shop, bringing business to a halt.
Family Feud and Accusations:
- Longstanding Bad Blood: The family has a history of conflicts, mainly due to their father’s polygamous marriage.
- Witchcraft Allegations: Joshua’s family members accuse him of possessing wealth-enhancing charms, causing misfortunes.
- Traditional Healer’s Involvement: A traditional healer in Nyanga allegedly claimed Joshua’s involvement in family misfortunes.
Joshua denied the allegations, attributing the drama to jealousy over his success.
“My brothers are jealous of my hard work and success. I have four wives and 20 children, whom I support through my sweat.”
Incident Aftermath:
- Theft and Vandalism: US$4,570 and foodstuffs were stolen from Joshua’s shop.
- Police Involvement: Joshua reported the theft, and police recorded statements.
- Community Reaction: Chief Chiduku condemned the incident, stating it was taboo and puzzling that the parties didn’t report it to him.
