Former Zanu PF Central Committee member Tafadzwa Masvayamwando Shumba has strongly condemned the party, labeling it as “evil”.
Mwasvayamwando said this during his mother Clara Shumba’s funeral in Rutenga.
Shumba, who contested as an independent candidate for Mwenezi West in the 2023 plebiscite and former National Consultative Assembly member, expressed his outrage over the party’s alleged wrongdoing.
Shumba’s criticism stems from his experience in the party’s primary elections, where he claims massive rigging occurred, orchestrated by Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) and CIO operatives. This led to Priscilla Zindari-Moyo’s victory, wife of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) director Isaac Moyo. Following his challenge to Moyo, Shumba’s Toyota GD6 was hijacked at gunpoint and torched near Chirindi Township during the run-up to the August 2023 harmonized elections.
“Zanu PF is evil. Everyone knows the people who burnt the car and they are walking freely. I want to tell those from the President’s office to listen carefully and report correctly. We are now orphans because of Zanu PF. My father, my mother, and I worked for that party, and this is what we are getting in return. I rue the day my father decided to join politics,” Shumba said.
Shumba’s mother, Clara, was declared a provincial war hero, and her funeral was attended by senior Zanu PF members, including Otilia Maluleke and Tambudzani Mohadi.
However, Rabson Mavhenyengwa, Zanu PF provincial chair, disputed Shumba’s claims, stating that he was lying and trying to tarnish the party’s image as an opposition member.
It’s worth noting that Zanu PF has been accused of violence against opposition members, including the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), ahead of the November 2023 by-elections. Additionally, there have been reports of a witch-hunt within the party to punish leaders accused of sabotaging President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
