Tragedy struck in Ruwa on Sunday when two young boys, Partson Gukwe and Tanyaradzwa Hlasela, ages six and seven, were found dead in a parked car during a church service.
The boys had been driven to Redemption International Church in the Damofalls Industrial Area by their 57-year-old guardian, Paul Hlasela Makechemu. After attending Sunday School, the boys returned to the unregistered red Honda Fit, which had temporary plates, and were later found unresponsive in the back seat.
The cause of their suffocation remains unclear, and authorities are investigating the incident. Harare police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the investigation, stating,
“Police are investigating a sudden death by suffocation case in Ruwa involving two minor children”.
This heartbreaking incident raises concerns about child safety and supervision.
