GWERU, ZIMBABWE – Stacy Mkandhla, 27, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for murdering a woman she found in bed with her husband.
The High Court convicted Mkandhla of fatally stabbing the victim on February 10, 2024.
Court Testimony Reveals Deadly Confrontation
Prosecutor, Mr. Tafadzwa Mpariwa, presented the case, highlighting the events leading to the tragic incident.
“The accused returned from an all-night prayer session to find her husband and the deceased in their matrimonial bed, half-naked. Enraged, she attacked the deceased with fists and later grabbed a kitchen knife.”
Mkandhla’s Husband Testifies
Mkandhla’s husband stated in court,
“I tried to calm her down and managed to disarm her, but they continued arguing. I left them, thinking the situation would calm down, but unfortunately, it escalated.”
Fatal Attack
Mkandhla armed herself with a second knife, stabbing the victim multiple times in the head, breast, and back. The victim fled but collapsed on the street and died from her injuries.
National Prosecuting Authority’s Plea
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe urged the public to avoid violence, saying,
“We encourage individuals to seek peaceful means to resolve conflicts, including third-party mediation. Violence only leads to devastating consequences.”
Judge’s Verdict
High Court Judge, Justice Nicholas Mathonsi, handed down the 10-year sentence, emphasizing, “The accused’s actions were premeditated and intentional. The court must balance justice with mercy, considering the severity of the crime.”
Mkandhla’s Defense
Mkandhla’s lawyer argued for leniency, citing her client’s provocation and emotional distress.
“My client was driven by emotions, having caught her husband in a compromising position. We request the court consider mitigating circumstances.”
