Shurugwi Man to Spend Life in Prison for the Brutal Murder of his Two Girlfriends

Emmanuel Mahembe, a resident of Shurugwi, has been handed a double life sentence by Judge Munashe Mutevedzi for the brutal murders of his two girlfriends, Patricia Mutero and Idah Chigumbete, on separate occasions ¹.

The Crimes

Mahembe’s crimes were premeditated and calculated. He met Patricia Mutero, his first victim, at Donga business center in Shurugwi between August 2021 and September 2022. The two drove to Dhanga dip tank in Mutero’s Honda Fit, where Mahembe murdered her, wrapped her body in a blanket, and buried it along the Gwamamvura riverbed. He then sold Mutero’s car.

His second victim, Idah Chigumbete, met Mahembe on May 22, 2021. A heated dispute over money escalated into violence, resulting in Chigumbete’s murder. Mahembe dumped her body in a disused mine shaft at Mutevekwi Bridge.

The Sentence

Judge Munashe Mutevedzi’s decision to hand Mahembe a double life sentence reflects the severity of his crimes. This sentencing ensures that Mahembe will spend the rest of his life behind bars, providing some measure of justice for the families of Patricia Mutero and Idah Chigumbete.

Unfortunately, Mahembe’s case is not an isolated incident. History has seen numerous serial killers and individuals who have committed similar atrocities, such as Zingisile Victor Ntokozo Kakana, who murdered his two girlfriends on Christmas Day.
