The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has strongly condemned the Local Government Ministry for abusing its power by forcing mayors to undergo Zanu PF’s Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology training.
This move is seen as a blatant attempt to push the ruling party’s agenda, despite not all mayors being elected under Zanu PF.
“We are disturbed by this dubious programme compelling Mayors to attend a Zanu PF School of Ideology training when it is public knowledge that not all Mayors were elected through or under the Zanu PF ticket,” said CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi.
The CCC has resolved to launch a commission of inquiry to investigate the training program and establish the circumstances surrounding the mayors’ attendance. The party aims to present its findings and recommendations to its national organ for further action.
Key Concerns:
- Abuse of State Institutions: CCC accuses Zanu PF of using state institutions to further its own interests.
- Economic Woes: Zimbabwe faces worsening economic conditions, including inflation, currency collapse, rising poverty, and unemployment.
- Deteriorating Social Services: Healthcare, education, water, sanitation, and electricity are all in decline.
The CCC also criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF for failing to fulfill electoral promises. “Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF are incapable of fulfilling any of their electoral promises, let alone resolving issues affecting citizens on a daily basis,” Mkwananzi emphasized.
The party stressed the need for urgent reforms and accountability in governance to address the country’s challenges.
“These are man-made conditions borne out of pervasive corruption, ambivalent and unrealistic policies, and lack of political will,” Mkwananzi said.
“Only a truly legitimate, citizen-centered government can resolve the challenges bedeviling our country.”
