The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Lusaka Base recently hosted a solemn ceremony to repatriate 26 fallen South African heroes and heroines who were exiled during South Africa’s liberation struggle. These individuals sought refuge in Zambia until their deaths.
In a heartfelt address, South African Deputy Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon Peace Mabe, expressed gratitude to the Zambian people for their significant role in the liberation struggle. She acknowledged Zambia’s courageous decision to open its borders to foreign freedom fighters, a move that came at a great cost, as many Zambians paid with their lives.
The repatriation process is part of South Africa’s commemoration of 30 years of democratic rule, which includes the return of 49 former liberation fighters who died in exile in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
