The Zimbabwean government confirmed yesterday that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was scheduled to board the helicopter that crash-landed in Masvingo on Sunday.
“The helicopter was supposed to fly the President, Dr. ED Mnangagwa, but experienced a technical fault and crash-landed,” Information Minister Jenfan Muswere said.
“The President, Dr. ED Mnangagwa, was not on board. The helicopter had crew members only on board, and there were no fatalities.”
The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe is investigating the incident.
In other news, Muswere announced updates on the Urban Cash for Cereal Scheme and the Emergency School Feeding Programme, which has collected over 3.8 million metric tonnes of mealie-meal/maize grain.
Cabinet also approved the Broadcasting Services Amendment Bill, requiring vehicle owners to obtain a radio license from the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.
“The Bill mandates the national broadcaster to broadcast 75% local content,” Muswere said.
