Nelson Chamisa, the former opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to tackle Zimbabwe’s brain drain and ensure educational achievements translate to tangible growth and prosperity.
This plan, which utilizes data, evidence, and statistical models, aims to guide individual citizens’ development from birth.
Key Components of the Plan:
- National Identity and Social Security: Assign a national identity, social security, citizen number, and voter registration identification to each citizen, triggering activation upon completion of testing and qualification.
- Job Market Readiness: Ensure the job market is ready to receive graduates with ideal opportunities, addressing joblessness among trained professionals.
- Data-Driven Approach: Monitor and relate data across economic and social sectors, providing a comprehensive approach to citizens’ affairs.
Chamisa emphasized that the current lack of opportunity and strategic planning means Zimbabwe’s investment in education often fails to yield meaningful returns. He noted,
“We produce graduates, but we have no viable market absorption plan to cater for the trained professionals we spew out year in and out”.
The Current State of Affairs:
At the University of Zimbabwe’s 43rd graduation ceremony, 6,778 students graduated, including 200 medical doctors, 256 lawyers, and 327 engineers. However, only 16 dentists and 83 pharmacists graduated, highlighting an area that requires significant improvement.
Chamisa stressed that Zimbabwe suffers from a significant brain drain, with many graduates seeking employment opportunities abroad or remaining unemployed at home. He believes that implementing a radical, elaborate, thoughtful, and inclusive citizens’ affairs plan can transform educational achievements into tangible growth and prosperity for all.
By introducing this comprehensive plan, Chamisa aims to address the pressing issues facing Zimbabwe’s educated youtha and ensure a brighter future for the nation.
