During the annual CleanUp Campaign held on Friday in Bulawayo, the President, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa announced the availability of the vaccine boost.
Discovered in late 2018 and spreading like a veld fire infecting millions and killing as much, the Covid-19 has distabilised the world as one of the deadly pandemic to occur this century.
The world over, vaccination has been encouraged as a way to curb deaths caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
“I am asking you all to be vaccinated and this morning I made a decision that those who have been fully vaccinated can go for a booster shot, which is the third one if they want. We have enough doses for everyone in this country,” said ED Mnangagwa to a sizeable crowd of Zanu-PF Supporters.
The President said Zimbabwe has enough shots to vaccinate the nation in doubles.
He said that people who are fully vaccinated can willingly go and have a third shot as a booster for the immune system.
“Even if people get double vaccination, we still have a surplus. Those who think they want a booster you can go a get the third jab,” he encouraged.
“Those who haven’t been vaccinated, I urge you to get vaccinated, no one is safe until you also get vaccinated then we will all feel safe.”
Currently Zimbabwe has over 6 million people who are vaccinated including those who are not fully vaccinated.
Omicron, another strain of the Covid-19 has been detected recently in Zimbabwe, and has spread almost worldwide.
Omicron is a heavily mutated Covid-19 Variant that is more transimissible than the Delta variant that killed several people in the country during the winter season.
Taking measures to prevent the spread of Omicron, the Government last week announced new lockdown measures and the third vaccine is be said to be a measure to curb spread of the new variant.
The Vice President Constantino Chiwenga on Thursday urged Zimbabweans to follow the World Health Organisation protocols, as the new variant has been detected in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s current infection rate has surged to one thousand from a low figure forty a day and at least 1 death case everyday.

This has seen a rapid rise in Covid-19 cases, which has been stable in Zimbabwe over the past months.
The President urged the masses to follow the protocols of the World Health Organization(WHO) in the fight with Covid19, that is to mask up, sanitize, washing hands with running water and to practice social distancing.
He also said Zimbabwe is expecting a set of more vaccines in the next few days and people should carry on vaccinating.
“We are receiving many more doses of vaccines in about five to six days from now, which are more than the country’s population”, He said.
