Sybeth Musengezi, a Zanu-PF youth, has pledged his support for Vice President Constantino Chiwenga amid reports of factionalism within the party.
Musengezi believes Chiwenga’s sacrifices in the 2017 coup should not be forgotten.
“If it’s true that VP Chiwenga is no longer wanted in Zanu-PF, we’ll fully support him as a matter of principle,” Musengezi said.
“These idiots are forgetting that he sacrificed his life in 2017 for Mnangagwa to be where he is now.”
This comes as President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s allies push to amend the Constitution to extend his term beyond 2028. Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa stated,
“The Constitution of Zimbabwe needs to be amended to allow him (Mnangagwa) to remain in power beyond 2028.”
However, not all party officials agree, with some opposing the extension of Mnangagwa’s term. The situation has created a fertile ground for factionalism within the ruling party.
