Zimbabweans are expressing outrage on social media after Selmor Mtukudzi, daughter of the late legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi, was snubbed from her father’s festival.

The Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts, scheduled for September 21st to 22nd, features popular artists but excludes Selmor Mtukudzi, sparking a storm on social media.

Fans of the late Oliver Mtukudzi are questioning her exclusion, with many threatening to boycott the festival if she is not included. Some are calling on invited artists to stand in solidarity with Selmor by refusing to perform if she is not added.

Social media users argue that Selmor Mtukudzi, as the true heir to Tuku’s legacy, should have been the main headlining act.

“A festival celebrating Oliver Mtukudzi cannot be complete without Selmor Mtukudzi,” they assert.

Reactions on social media include:

  • “The Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts and I tried to see where @SelmorMtukudzi name is and I couldn’t find it. Now to me, this is where I draw a line, I don’t support family divisions and selfishness.” (@cdesetfree)
  • “Selmor is the only Mtukudzi brand left, we can’t celebrate @TukuOfficial and not have the only living brand carrier…She should be the headline and perform all the days of the Festival.” (@Brian Hove)
  • “All those artists, if Selmor is not there, they should just decline and boycott…respect Tuku’s legacy.” (@Dhereck)

The exclusion of Selmor Mtukudzi from her father’s festival has sparked a heated debate, with many calling for her inclusion to honor Oliver Mtukudzi’s legacy.
