Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, son of former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe, has been arrested for violent conduct after allegedly assaulting a policeman at a roadblock in Beitbridge.

“I have just heard he was arrested, but I am not in the office,” said Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, the officer commanding Beitbridge Police District.

Sources revealed that Chatunga arrived at the roadblock at 0600hrs, driven by a Chinese driver, but became impatient when police requested vehicle documents and identification.

“He started shouting at the police, saying,

‘You are delaying us, do you know who I am?'” said the sources.

“He then angrily and violently grabbed a Support Unit officer by the collar and tore off his shirt buttons in the process.”

Mugabe allegedly produced an Okapi knife but was subdued and arrested by police, who took him to Beitbridge Rural Police Station for further management.

“This is unacceptable behavior, and no one is above the law,” said a police spokesperson. “We will not tolerate violence against our officers.”

Chatunga is the second son of Mugabe, who also had Robert and their sister Bona named after the former Zimbabwean leader’s mother.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for Mugabe to face the full force of the law.

“No one is above the law, regardless of their family connections,” said a local resident. “He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.”
