The cleaning campaign set aside for every first Friday of every month by President ED Mnangagwa continues countrywide with Ministers deployed to champion the campaign.
Last Friday, Minister of Defence and War Veterans, Oppah Muchinguri was supposed to be the guest of honour at Southwold Shopping Centre in Bulawayo, for the clean up.
She however did not turn up.
The Minister of Defence’s no show was not explained.
In her absence (Oppah Muchinguti) Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Bulawayo Province Honourable Judith Ncube led the clean up campaign at Southworld Shopping Centre in the eastern suburbs. She was accompanied by the ranking official from the uniformed forces, Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services, Zimbabwe Republic Police as well as the Zimbabwe National Army.
Officials from the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) were also present alongside other stakeholders.
The stand in minister Judith Ncube killed two birds with one stone as she planted a number of trees at the site.
In her speech Min. Judith Ncube spoke of working hand in hand with business entities to be included in the clean up campaign, through donations and implements that should help in the clean up campaigns.
“I am challenging local authorities, business entities and other key stakeholders in the clean up campaign implementation plan.” said Judith Ncube
The minister went on to encourage the local authorities to respect nature by policy implementation.
“Local authorities should set a policy direction aim at resource efficiency and to grow a recycling based society which ultimately will be able to provide for its residents, both current and future generations.” added Ncube.
The National clean up programme has taken on board the “Cleaning and Green Approach”.This means that the planting of trees on National Clean up campaigns , bigger part of the programme is now planting of trees.
Meanwhile this year’s Uhuru Celebrations will be held in Bulawayo for the first time since Zimbabwe attained it’s independence 42 years ago in 1980. The state minister therefore touched briefly about the celebrations saying that the month of April is regarded as the most important month in the history of country and encouraged the public to celebrate the independence month in style by having a litter-free independence month going into the future.
