A horrific incident has come to light in Zvimba District, where a woman was brutally assaulted by her husband with a hammer for refusing to kill their child for ritual purposes.
“I couldn’t believe what was happening,” said Evangelistah Chadzingawafa, recalling the terrifying night.
“My husband, Musa Hove, woke me up in the middle of the night, accusing me of not respecting him. He had been pressuring me to kill our child for rituals to gain wealth and enhance our business, but I refused.”
Chadzingawafa, 42, sustained severe head injuries after Hove, 41, attacked her with a hammer.
“He instructed me to go and sleep in the spare bedroom with the children, and I complied,” she said.
“But soon after, he followed me with a hammer and hit me twice on the head. I managed to disarm him, but he still bit my right hand.”
Hove appeared before Mbare magistrate Winnet Joni, charged with the assault of his wife.
“I was trying to protect our child and myself from his evil plans,” Chadzingawafa said.
“I’m grateful to have escaped with my life.”
The incident highlights the dark reality of ritual killings and domestic violence.
“No one should be forced to harm their child or suffer at the hands of their partner,” said a local activist.
“We need to create awareness and support for victims of such heinous crimes.”
