A deadly domestic dispute erupted in the bustling Pumula North suburb of Bulawayo, transforming a heated disagreement into a tragic crime scene in a blink of an eye.

In a chilling act of domestic violence, a security guard pursued his wife to the landlord’s bedroom, wielding a stolen pistol allegedly intent on carrying out a threat to kill her.

The harrowing events have raised eyebrows, reigniting the urgent need for effective interventions to prevent such devastating incidents.

The Bulawayo Police Department has issued a plea for help from the public in locating Oscar Khumalo (38), the alleged perpetrator of the tragic incident.

Khumalo, a male adult from Pumula North, works as a security guard for a local company. The suspect is the husband of the late victim, who tragically lost her life as a result of the violent altercation.

Any information that could assist in his arrest is urgently sought by law enforcement officials.

According to the official statement issued by Bulawayo Provincial Police Inspector Abednico Ncube, the tragic sequence of events began in the afternoon of July 7, 2024 at around 16:32pm, when a heated argument between the accused, Oscar Khumalo, and his wife, Khangelani Nkiwane, escalated to alarming levels.

The nature of the dispute remains unclear, but what is known is that the disagreement culminated in Khumalo making a chilling threat to end his wife’s life.

Fearing for her life, the now deceased wife, Nkiwane, fled to the bedroom of the couple’s landlord in a desperate attempt to escape her husband’s wrath.

However, the accused, Khumalo, allegedly pursued her, brandishing a pistol that he had allegedly stolen from his workplace.

In a harrowing turn of events, the landlord locked the bedroom door, where the deceased hid, with Khumalo outside, allegedly threatening to kill both the landlord and his wife.

Determined to gain entry into the locked bedroom where his wife and the landlord were hiding, the accused, Khumalo, allegedly fired a single shot at the door.

When this failed to achieve his goal, he reportedly went outside the house and shattered a bedroom window with an unknown object.

With the room now vulnerable, Khumalo allegedly fired two shots at his wife, striking her in the back and hand.

A police report was made following this harrowing incident, with law enforcement officers rushing to the scene to take control of the situation.

Despite a frantic search, the accused, Khumalo, managed to evade capture by law enforcement officials, leaving behind a scene of devastation and grief.

The now deceased wife, Khangelani Nkiwane, was taken to Mpilo Hospital for medical attention following the shooting, but tragically, her injuries proved to be fatal.

She succumbed to her wounds on July 8, 2024, leaving her family, friends, and community to mourn her loss and grapple with the senseless violence that led to her death.

“The abuse of service firearms is regrettable and a life has been lost because of failure by a man to handle some challenges.

“We urge members of the public men in particular to have courage and better ways of solving problems than killing victims,” said Ncube.
