…So his advisers told him, “Let us find a young virgin to wait on you and look after you, my lord. She will lie in your arms and keep you warm.”- 1 Kings 1:2

WHILE the country’s medical professionals battle Influenza with Covid-19 like symptoms and everyone else tries to keep warm during this winter season, underneath the bed sheets, a hot scourge lies hidden.
The winter’s nurturing spirit brings soft- compassion and warmth that many couples long for. Even old flames are rekindled and new winter-motivated relationships ignite.
Sexual periodicity of human beings is naturally not affected by weather temperatures. But sexual arousal interests tend to surge during this time of the year. Many individuals strongly believing that cold temperatures create the perfect setting for intimacy.
The natural tendency to be warm, becomes more of a driving force.
“Winter season is the best because I mean uyazizwa u more warmer being with your partner. This time of the year gives the best weather for everything.” Said a 19-year- old female residing in Cowdray Park.
The exact reasons the months of June and July, are the preferred months for increased sexual activities by young Zimbabweans is unclear.
“Sex is better when it’s cold. I don’t have to deal with the sweat.” Stated 22 year old Admire Mpofu.
But the desire for physical closeness associated with pleasure, attachment and bonding is one of the few factors enhancing sexual desires.
“The warmth from an opposite sex blanket-mate, makes the two want to be as closer. Mind you, a women’s between-legs generate the most enjoyable heat, without side effects. The only effect is generating sexual appeal. So it is this desire to get closer to a partner that eventually leads the couple into sexual activity.” Says Dr. Christopher Zishiri, Educational psychologist and Researcher.
Likewise, the brain does have a role to play. Neuropsychology suggests that the brain by being the primary behavior processing organ, through the limbic system, it plays a big part when it comes to sexual activities.
“Human beings live and die for sex. What we do is mostly sexually driven. Sex is at the end of it all. You work, you go to the gym, you buy a good car, you build a beautiful house etc. Well, the whole point is to please someone. Who is that someone? The answer is, its that woman or that man. For what? Your answer is as good as mine. If we remove that woman, that man, then we have removed the energy that drives your endeavors. The mind knows it perfectly, its all about sex. You steal, you rape, you do this & that, at the end of it all its about sex.” He added.
Dr. Zishiri also said that increased erectile functioning during the cold could however lead to dire consequences afterwards. And has encourage that, “there is life after the cold seasons/weather. Act wisely lest you perish. If you can’t resist the appeal, just get married.”
Winter colds can tend to be intimate, bring people closer together. It’s no surprise sexual interests take a peak during this time, but it is crucial to be cautious in this “conducive weather for sexual activities”.
