Robert Mugabe Jnr,son of the late ex-Zimbabwean leader Robert Gabrielle Mugabe has seemingly found his way back to Zanu PF after an acrimonious departure from the ruling party in 2017 together with his parents.
He was seen in attendance at the Zanu PF star rally at St Mary’s in Chitingidzwa on wednesday afternoon.Mugabe junior was recognized by the party bigwigs including Emmerson Mnangagwa who exchanged pleasantries with him upon arrival.
Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa showered him with welcome remarks and drew parallels between Mugabe Jnr and the then-youths of the 1970s who fought in the liberation struggle.
“He is going to be a good encouragement to our youth. To say that, there was a generation of young people from the 1960’s and 1970’s who paid the ultimate sacrifice. It is a matter of continuity from baton stick to baton stick in a continuous rally race for the future of the prosperity of Zimbabwe. Having Robert here is very inspiring, its very reassuring. I am very happy about it”,Chris Mutsvangwa said.
At the height of the Zanu PF succession battle in 2017,Mutsvangwa openly told the Mugabes off and reminded them that Zanu PF was not their private property and that they would leave the party, foreshadowing their immenent exit from the party and government structures.
The 30 year old former basket ball player re-enacted the biblical prodigal son as he explained his “soul ties”with Zanu PF,”They have been very accomodating. I thought I should come and support the party. Like its a family tradition. Since I was born the only thing I knew is Zanu PF. I am a Zanu PF child and I have a Zanu PF soul. It is only right that I continue the legacy,”
When the late Zanu PF leader Robert Mugabe (snr) was deposed, his wife Grace had been fiercely opposed to Emmerson Mnangagwa succeeding Mugabe and herself had begun to display ambitions of being the next president.
