CHIEF Bekezela Nyathi, the United African National Council (UANC)’s Parliamentary candidate for Bubi constituency, Matabeleland North has urged voters to vote wisely in the upcoming elections for the rural district to receive high quality development.
It is of no secret that when it comes to development, the whole of Matabeleland has been neglected and marginalized. Matabeleland lags behind in economic, social and political development which has seen the Matabele passionately abhor the state and supporting more of opposition parties.
The sidelining of the region in the fields of Health, education, employment and infrastructure development unexpectedly led to territorial nationalism.
According to Vice President of UANC, Chief Bekezela Nyathi, now is the time for the people of Bubi who have been crying for sustainable and quality development for 43 years to make wise decisions. Chief Nyathi, has pledged to tackle development issues and spend big if elected, focusing more on education and health sectors.
“Every child has the right to receive education. When elected to parliament, l will provide School bursaries to the vulnerable Children up to University Level. Provide stationery to all Primary Schools. Promote Training centers to offer more tertiary education to the local youths.
“Clinics and hospitals ought to have adequate medical supplies because as THE UANC, we are pushing for free education and free health care.” Said Chief Nyathi.
Born and breed in Matabeleland North (iNyathi, Kopa), Chief Nyathi revealed that Bubi is anxious to have one of its own to get into the leadership hierarchy. Adding that once in power, more health and learning facilities will be built in the constituency.
The UANC Vice President further stated that their aim, once in the echelons of law makers, is to fight the presidential term.
“The presidential term should not exceed two terms. Other persons have to be given the chance to participate because as individual we have different perspective when it comes to our Country.”
Section 95 of the Constitution states that the President’s term of office begins when he or she is sworn in and extends normally for five years until the next election when he or she is re-elected or a new President is elected.
Section 91(2) of the Constitution imposes a two-term limit by providing that a person is disqualified for election as President:
“if he or she has already held office as President under this Constitution for two terms, whether continuous or not, and for the purpose of this subsection three or more years’ service is deemed to be a full term.”
The ruling party, Zanu PF has been pushing to further President Emmerson Mnangwagwa’s presidential period to more than two terms (life presidency).
Should Zanu PF’s Presidential candidate win the 2023 harmonized elections, he will not be eligible for re election for another term as President in 2028.
