The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Bulawayo have arrested four men for slaying Wilfred Maderera (28) of Pumula North.
Eric Ngonidzashe Jena (29), Ayanda Ncube (20), Maverlous Ncube (32) and Brighton Gwala (25) are behind bars for the heinous crime.
The revelations were made by ZRP Bulawayo’s Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube in a statement.
“Police arrested Eric Ngonidzashe Jena a male adult aged 29, Ayanda Ncube a male adult aged 20, Marvellous Ncube a male adult aged 32 and Brighton Gwala a male adult age 25 all from Pumula North Bulawayo in connection with a murder case of Wilfred Maderera, a male adult aged 28 of Pumula North Bulawayo.”Insp Ncube said in a statement.
According to Insp Ncube the murder occurred on the 2nd of June 2023 at around 22:30 hours where the deceased and the accused quartet were drinking beer at a Sports bar in Pumula North Bulawayo. The deceased allegedly mistakenly spilled Eric Ngonidzashe Jena’s beer which culminated to a misunderstanding from the accused resulting in a fist fight between the now deceased and the accused, when the security guard tried to intervene by pushing them outside the bar , Eric Ngonidzashe Jena them stabbed the deceased with an unknown object thrice on the neck and he fell down and succumbed to the injuries after bleeding profusely. When the ambulance was called the now deceased was pronounced dead.
Insp Ncube further stated that a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Eric Ngonidzashe Jena while the other trio were tracked down by the following day.
“A police report was then made leading to the arrest of Eric Ngonidzashe Jena. The other three accused persons were arrested after police received information on their whereabouts the following day.” Inspector Ncube added
Inspector Ncube also advised the public to desist from taking matters into their own hands but to find possible ways of maneuvering through their problems.
“Members of the public are urged not to take the law into their own hands but try to find amicable ways to solve their problems especially when under the influence of alcohol so as to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.” Insp Ncube also stated.
