Giant multinational telecommunication company Econet Holdings dished out free access to data to it’s users after network glitches on Wednesday evening.
This move was made by the Strive Masiyiwa headed company as a way of apology to it’s customers after hours of network glitches experienced by the consumers during the day , this was revealed by the company’s Media and Corporate Communications Executive Fungai Mandivenyi in a statement released to it’s stakeholders.
“We made a gesture to allow our customers to use data services for free yesterday evening, we therefore sincerely apologize to our valued customers for the inconvenience that the interruption of service may have caused them.”Mandiveyi said
The Econet Holdings’ Media and Corporate Communications Executive also narrated what caused data network glitches.
“Our engineers and vendors (equipment suppliers) worked flat-out to resolve the challenges, which affected voice calls, SMS and Ecocash mobile money services on Tuesday afternoon, and which caused some customers to experience challenges in accessing our mobile data services yesterday.” she added
Zim GBC News crew also spoke to some Econet customers (users) who were infuriated by the network glitch.
One customer who spoke on anonymity stated that the network glitch yesterday seriously affected his business of the day although did not realise that there was free data when the network services were restored.
“Econet charges us high prices of data while their services are poor worse off yesterday my business was disrupted as I work online I couldn’t reach out to my customers and so my day was wasted , after that I didn’t notice that when the service was restored there was free data I only saw it through a text message from Econet today.”He said
