A 22 year old University student was arrested on Saturday after he was accused of rape.
Takunda Dyirakumunda of Mt. Hampden, Harare was arrested at the weekend after his 23 year old girlfriend pointed an accusatory finger at him for rape.
The victim, Dyirakumunda’s girlfriend, is also a student at the University of Zimbabwe but currently is on attachment under Ministry of Local Government and Public Works in Harare
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest.
The victim has since been referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for medical examination.
“University of Zimbabwe student Takunda Dyirakumunda has been arrested as he rapped his lover,” said Inspector Chakanza.
Circumstances are that the complainant and accused were girlfriend and boyfriend and are both students at the University of Zimbabwe,” added Inspector Chakanza.
The victim is said to have invited Dyirakumunda to her workplace for an appointment on the 26th March 2023.
As a way of showing his girlfriend his love, the accused went to the office around 5pm in the evening when everyone else had gone home.
“The accused person asked to have sexual intercourse with the complainant but the complainant refused,” said Inspector Chakanza.
“The accused person started caressing the complainant who was wearing a pair of jean trousers and ended up raping her without protection,” Inspector Chakanza said.
Because she thought that they were lover, the complainant did not say anything to anyone of the event and abuse of that day and chose to remain silent.
Things turned different turn as on the 7 day of April the accused met the complainant to break up with her, this left her hurt and angry.
Then on the 8th day of April, the complainant lodged a police report against the accused leading to his arrest.
