Money is the root of all evil indeed.
A Seventh Day Adventist pastor from Chegutu has fled the country to South Africa clutching church members money after he lured them to make an investment in a ‘company’ he had set up.
Pastor Fortunate Mawowa of SDA Church is said to have fled the country after some of his church members who had made an investment in his so called company pestered him for their returns.
More than US$40 000 is believed to have been invested in his made up ‘company’ and non of the investors received a penny.
“Pastor Mawowa left the country for South Africa saying he was going to seek specialist medical treatment,” said one of the pastor’s victims
“We have been duped of our hard earned money after Pastor Mawowa sweet talked us to invest in his bogus scheme,” added the victim.
According to many, Pastor Fortunate Mawowa has been using the money for his own interests, as he has been buying beautiful cars and had a lavish white wedding, which attracted so many people.
The investors became suspicious of their pastor when maturity of their investment became due and wanted to withdraw returns on investment.
The pastor is said to have feigned being sick and always sending apology text messages.
“After he realised he was under pressure, he then fled to South Africa pretending to be sick and looking for special medical treatment back there,”said the investor.
Ever since Mawowa fled to South Africa, he went quite and it has been hard for the victims to get in touch with him.
Pressure has been mounting on Mawowa’s mother, since some of the prejudiced victims have been approaching her demanding their money in vain
