The Zimbabwe national U20 ladies handball team is poised for success at the Zone VI International Handball Federation Tournament.
The tournament is slated for South Africa from 23-27 May 2023.
This was indicated to Zim GBC News by the National Ladies Handball Head Coach Sipho Mahlangu who told this publication that preparations for the regional showpiece are currently underway as they are set start training trials on Saturday at Queen Elizabeth High School in Harare.
“We are set to kickstart our preparations for the Zonal Championships with trials at Queen Elizabeth High School on Saturday. We will sit as a technical team to draw up a programme for training camps as well as for individual players who would have made the grade. Our main plan is to have at least two training camps before the final one.”Mahlangu said
The National Handball team gaffer was bubbling with confidence as he stated his intentions of at least reaching the final at the regionals in South Africa despite stiff competition from fellow neighbours Mozambique, Zambia and the Hosts (South Africa) who have been perennial regional nemesis in the sport.
“Although we expect to get stiff competition from our fellow neighbours Mozambique, Zambia and South Africa our aim is to give them a good run of their money by at least making it into the final. But that calls for a lot of hard work so that the players are physically and mentally prepared.”He added
Zimbabwe bagged gold and silver at the previous edition of the tournament which they hosted in Harare last year.
