ALL roads led to Zimbabwe Republic Police Canteen at High-field (Machipisa) this past weekend in-terms of sports of darts.
The event that was hosted by the Harare Darts Association (HDA) saw nearly all darts players from the Metropolitan Province of Harare taking part as part of the trials to pick a team that is set to take part in the upcoming Easter National Darts Tournament slated for Zimbabwe’s second largest city, Bulawayo from 7-10 April.
Kudakwashe Tore, the Secretary General told this reporter that a strong pool of hopefuls showed up for these trials.
“There was a high turnout as all the Harare darts registered players were given the opportunity to qualify and represent the province. The senior men team had 25 Players from Preliminary Trials and only 8 qualified.” Said Tore.
Tore also told Zim GBC News that the outstanding players that emerged from the trials include Modhekai Dheka of Cool Cats Darts Club, who is currently the best hitting 8 X 180s in one tournament. Charles Jonhs of Hypave Bees Darts Club also proved to be maturing by age like whisky after closing the highest checkout of 170.
The HDA secretary general was oozing with confidence buoyed by what he claims to have witnessed at High-field police station.
“Harare Province as the Powerhouse of Darts in Zimbabwe and the defending Champions, we are invincible and ready to retain our Trophy.” He added.
As a partying shot, Tore paid tribute to the media fraternity across the country for putting the sport of darts back unto the map of sports code.
“Darts is getting increased visibility in Harare and Zimbabwe in general through the support we are getting from the media .We thank you all for that, you are heroes of the sport.”
