The ruling ZANU-PF party has issued out a statement in which they are backing the Zimbabwe Republic Police in its current drive against drug abuse and drug peddling.
“We are making sure that we even get the source of the drugs such that the culprits will have to face the law. Our aim is to remove the youths from the street so that they can not be be endangered by drugs when they remain in the street,” said Secretary General Admire Masikati.
By removing the youths from streets, Masikati elaborated that these youths are empowered through “employment creation” and empowerment programmes such as farming and others.
“We engage with the of Women Affairs, Small and Medium Enterprises, agriculture amongst other Ministries in order to make sure that the youths have something valuable that they are doing,” he continued.
As the elections are drawing close, the party is engaging in cell verification in which ZANU-PF is seeking to increase membership numbers.
During the cell verification programme, the party is concientising young people on the dangers of drug abuse.
“As a party, we are engaging in sports for the drug awareness campaign very soon in which we will be teaching about how the youths should abstain from drugs, with the theme community’s responsibility. We also do the push to close supply where we urge the youths to report anyone they see selling drugs to the police,” he added.
The ruling party is also promising to do many other programs that engage the youths going with the President’s mantra of “Leaving no one and no place behind.”
